Newhall United 2 Chasetown "A" 1

Date: Thursday 22 August, 2002

ICIS Midland Combination Division Three
Wednesday 21st August 2002
Match Report by peter Begent, Newhall

Newhall picked up their first win of the season despite a late kick off, a delay when the teams clours clashed and then spending the last 20 minutes with only ten after keeper Andrew Nicholls was sent off.

Newhall opened brightly and dominated the opening exchanges and saw early chances from Richard Draycott hit the side netting and andy layland fire an effort straight at keeper Carl Probert.

With 26 minutes on the clock Newhall opened ther scoring when Matt Lee pounced on a slip by Probert and steared the ball into an empty net.

Marlon Prince opened the Newhall defence but Nicholls came of his line well to divert the shot for a corner.

With minutes of the first half remaining Newhall increased their lead with a wonder goal from Lee. He controled the ball some 25 yards from goal turned and fired an unstobable shot into the bottom corner of the net.

Lee was a constant threat to a young Chasetown side, although it was Draycott who nearly scored a third for Newhall when his header from a Laykland long ball went narrowly wide.

The game turned in the 70th minute when Nicholls was sent off for what the referee described as a profesional fowl. Norton went in goal and handled well until he was betten by a 20 yard free kick from Adam Shakesheave.

Newhall continued to look for further goals with Layland firing just over and Lee bringing a good save from Probert.

Newhall; Nicholls, Layland, McGinty, Hickling (Abbott), Dickinson, Lakin, Moran (Burton), Bradley, Lee, Norton, Draycott (Ratcliffe).

Attendance: 70.
